Today was one of the most mixed-emotions of a round I've had in a long time. The Links at Bodega Bay was as beautiful as it was a let down. Panoramic ocean and bay views on every hole, but every hole left you wanting the course to be so much better. A few very strong holes, but way too many uninteresting ones. The biggest problem was fairway and rough conditions. White flowering weeds have taken over and the rough was so long it was lost ball prone. I understand a lot of rain has soaked this area recently, so I get it. The greens were very good, although a little slower than I expected. The houses tho...so many houses right on top of the course! The opening tee shot was the most nervous I've ever been. Uphill tee shot with a slight bend to the left with houses lining both sides. You cannot miss a shot here without being a lost ball or broken window. Holes 4 and 6 were the best of the bunch on the front 9, 5 was maybe the oddest hole I've ever played. The real draw here is the approach to 15 - 17 when you get done by the ocean. Then 18 is again a really awkward hole. The property HAD tons of potential, but it's been choked out of any possibility of being a really good golf course by the development around it. All that said, we loved the scenery and had fun playing, but it's a round I'll soon forget.
Scenic course, lots of elevation changes, views of the ocean, very tough greens, and the course can play very difficult on a windy day (most days). Only 2 downside is, lots of houses close to the fairways, and I wasn’t a big fan of some of the blind tee shots.
Proshop staff were wonderful, knowledgeable, and kind. Putting green was great, chipping green could us a bit of maintenance on the edges, practice nets were fine too. Course was stunning and in great shape. Greens rolled true, teeboxes were clean and fresh, and the fairways and bunkers played perfectly. Had a fantastic round and will definitely be back!
