What people say about (Forest Hills Golf Course)

Max McKnight

Review of Forest Hills Golf Club – Augusta, Georgia Forest Hills Golf Club is a true gem in Augusta. From the moment you arrive, you can feel the hospitality—everyone from the management to the membership and even the attendants are incredibly friendly. There’s just a great energy in the building, like you’re part of a welcoming golf family. The cart paths are in excellent shape, and I have to say—these carts are next-level. I normally hate GPS carts, but I broke my own rule here. That’s how smooth, clean, and high-tech they were. Absolute game-changer. Even though the greens were aerated during our visit, they were still rolling nicely. You can tell the grounds crew takes pride in keeping the course in great shape. The views across the course are stunning—hard to believe there’s anything more beautiful, but it does make you wonder what Augusta National must look like if this place is any indication. Inside, the service was just as impressive. The waitstaff was attentive, kind, and eager to help. It’s the little things that elevate an experience, and Forest Hills nails all the details. Home to the Augusta State University golf team—two-time national champions—you even get to see their dorms on the property, which adds a touch of prestige to the whole place. Overall, this course is remarkable. Great people, great conditions, and a great atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back.

This is a Donald Ross design that they are struggling to get the greens to behave. If the greens were better, 5 stars all the way. I loved the course, but the greens weren’t good when I played it. Hopefully they have fixed that. The clubhouse sandwich at the turn was fantastic and I’d play here again just for the sandwich.

I played Forest Hills on February 28th and was charged $85, which I felt was not justified given the overall experience. While the course conditions were decent, I strongly advise against playing there due to poor pace-of-play caused by course management. The course prioritizes the Augusta State golf team, and if they take 4.5 to 5 hours to complete their round, other players are left waiting with no intervention from the course staff. Despite spending over $90 between golf and range balls, I received no support from the clubhouse when the college players caused significant delays. The staff simply responded with “sorry” rather than addressing the issue. The refusal of the college players to allow faster groups to play through only added to the frustration. Given these factors, I was highly disappointed with the experience and have decided not to return, recommending others to avoid the course as well due to its high price and poor management of pace of play. On a side note: They throw down green paint to make the course "look" better. Woodside, Reserve Club, Palmetto, and other top tier courses do not use paint, and their greens/fairways look awesome.. Do Better Forest Hills!
