The worst golf course I’ve ever played. The “fairways” are not manicured to be fairways at all. The tee boxes are not groomed. Most of the cart paths are dirt roads or just stop. See pictures. Manager asked us how we were at the turn, so we commented on the fairways and how it rough it was. He was very kind and understanding and offered to refund us and did do so. When we proceeded to make the turn, he told us we could not continue playing because he refunded us…. Very overpriced fee for the state of the course. Thankful for the refund, but will not ever return. *Update in response to owner’s comment- we left and played another course nearby that had the same amount of rain and the course looked beautiful. It’s unfortunate when a business owner wishes bad karma on someone who is giving honest feedback. No accountability and blaming God… lol. Good luck.
This place is decent. Great location. It has so much potential, but it feels like the owners just let it go. Put minimal effort into the landscape. It feels like there only in in as kind of a side business. Like the course its self is an afterthought. Definatly had a nice time though.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I’ve been playing Deer Run Golf Club in West Tawakoni, Texas for about a year now, and it’s been great to see how much the owners have invested in improving the course. They’ve worked hard to bring it back to life after the tough Texas freezes a few years ago. While there are still two temporary greens, the other 16 are in excellent condition — smooth, well-maintained, and fun to play. This course has a ton of character, plenty of elevation changes, and scenic views of Lake Tawakoni that make it stand out from other courses in the area. It’s a challenging layout with plenty of wildlife — I see deer crossing the fairways most mornings. I started out with their Buck Club membership, which offered great value, but was so impressed with the progress and the ownership’s commitment that I upgraded to the Platinum Membership this past May. What I love most is how casual and welcoming the atmosphere is. Whether you’re a regular or a first-timer, it’s a great place to play. If you’re looking for a scenic, laid-back golf course near Dallas with great value and a passionate ownership team, Deer Run Golf Club is absolutely worth checking out. It’s earned a permanent spot in my rotation.
