What people say about (Cookeville Nazarene DGC)

Michael Graeve

This was one of those course I should have done more research on before showing up. I was only visiting the area with minimal time and this 9 hole satisfied my warmup needs. The rating on UDisc is higher than it should be. There is nothing amazing about this course. There are hardly any obstacles on this course with Hole 4 having two trees and Hole 8 having to wrap around another properties wooded property. For starters, this course is on a church’s property. Kudos to them for allowing this space to be used as such. Don’t plan on playing a round here when church services are going on or you could cause property damage to parked cars if not carefully. Luckily for me I was here on a Thursday morning. I did over shoot Hole 2 into the parking lot and Hole 4 and 7 tee pads are on the parking lot which could be an issue if a car parks over the tee pad. Once you find hole one’s tee pad (in front yard of church by street), the rest is smooth sailing. Signage is at every tee and the baskets have signs directing you to the next tee. Between some of the holes, there is a bit of a walk between last basket and next tee pad though. I did like the creative signs of using a disc but the plastic disc was beginning to dry rot and fade due to the sun and heat. Tee pads were turf with the exception of Hole 4 being the asphalt parking lot. Baskets are newer and in good shape with only one pad and one pin placement for every hole. It appears there were USB powered light strips on the pole for those glow rounds which is a plus for this course. With the holes being wide open, it would be hard to lose your disc at night and for beginners. The course was clean and well-kept but is expected being on the church grounds. There are no bathrooms or garbage cans but these amenities are not needed considering this is a open 9 hole course and takes one person less than 30 minutes to play. The course lacks any elevation with a little hill on hole 3 and therefore is cart friendly should you require one. Hole two appears it could get wet after heavy rainfall. I’d recommend this course to beginners, for glow rounds, warming up before playing the 18 hole course in the area or for doing field work. If you live in the neighborhood around the church, I can see this being a course to play quickly but would still recommend the 10 minute drive over to Cane Creek Park instead. It just so happened I had planned to play Crane Creek and wanted to get in an extra 9 holes prior and this was on the way. I would not drive more than 15 minutes to only play this course if I lived in this area. Again, kudos to the church for allowing this space to be used for disc golf. It is a great activity for people to get exercise and enjoy the outdoors. As expected, course had no one on it at 7:30 on a Thursday morning in mid-May. 2.5 stars if I was able to halves.

Fun course. Totally enjoyed my first round with my son.
